Oak Villa
Set in 1.5 acres of former farmland, this modest two storey extension draws on the surrounding architectural language whilst providing a contemporary response to its rural setting.
Utilising a familiar form, the extension is clad with black corrugated steel, mimicking the agricultural buildings in the area but maintaining an aestthetic that respects the original stone-built Victorian house, which is to be fully refurbished as part ot the works.
Internally the extension houses a new dining and living space at ground floor, with integrated furniture, including an expansive window seat with views over the garden and the historical Oak that gives the house it’s name. Upstairs, a guest bedroom and en-suite provide accommodation for returning grown-up children.
It was important to us that the extension let the original house breath so the connection of the old and new is set back and kept to a single storey which allows that sense of separation.
